Out-Sourced CxO (CEO / COO / CFO / CMO ......) - A concept who's time has comeViews: 1276

Jayant Tewari, OutSourced CFO
Would appreciate member reactions to a concept I've been propounding .... the time for Functional super-specialists, the ultimate CxO's to participate in the development of SME's on a time-sharing / organisational multiplexing model. I've been doing it myself for the last 3 years, as an 'Out Sourced CFO' and its been the most satisfying period of my career .... reactions ?

As interesting as your idea is, I do have an issue with outsourcing the CEO position. You can outsouce 99% of a company's employees, but I feel you can't outsource the CEO.

Every decent organization needs a leader or a few leaders - ones with a vision for the future. You need to have at least some sort of stake in the company to do that. And you need to have a permanent postion to care where the company is headed. A 'temp' generally does not.

You can outsource managers, but you cannot outsource leaders, and the CEO is the head leader.

Our firm works with quite a few different CFO "outsourcing" companies and have had some very positive experiences. We've also had some "not so positive" experiences, which comes with the territory. For the most part, I think it's proven to be a very powerful resource for smaller companies that cannot afford a full-time CFO, COO, etc... with a strong resume.

The CEO position may be a challenge as far as outsourcing, as mentioned in the previous post. However, I have seen companies outsourcing this position on a temporary basis as they are going through a significant transaction (acquisition, becoming a public entity, etc...). It helps to provide the company with initial direction - but I'm not sure I would agree to this on a regular basis.

Good luck with what you are doing - I think it's a good concept.
